Anatomy of a Painting
This is a series of steps taken on the path to the creation of a new painting. Sometimes they’re easy, sometimes I stumble but I hope persistence will pay off and lead to a painting I’m happy with.
The Start: The dreaded blank canvas with a light pencil sketch of the general areas of the painting.
Blocking: Broad areas of light colour are mapped out to assess space and balance.
Filling Spaces: Top of painting fully blocked awaiting detail later. The Village and trees takes shape.
The Rocks: Overlooking the village and streams are filled in. Tree cut back. Decisions now have to be made.
Decision Time: The dominating tree has to go. Waterfall takes over. New rock on the right.
